Let's discuss how the average rider can benefit by adding Virtual Coaching to their current training program. It should be used as a supplement, to enhance and deepen your understanding of the concepts you are learning in your program with your own trainer.

Say you are currently working on improving your sitting trot in your lessons at home. You can use Virtual Coaching to discuss what you are doing exactly to improve your sitting trot, what you feel is working, and what is not - and find out why those things are working or not working. You will also be able to get new ideas and exercises to try for any issue that you are working on. And of course the support and camaraderie of the group is always a welcome addition as well!

You will see yourself in many of the questions that others bring up, or on the pictures or videos posted. And will learn to fix problems you may not have even known you had!

Virtual Coaching sites are also great for developing your "eye". When you can see a picture or video, and read the critique and feedback provided, you can further increase your skills to see what is going on and why. And of course learn how to fix whatever problems are being shown. You never know when the problem you just watched in a video will be an issue for you! It's good to develop the understanding of all potential problems, not just the ones you are dealing with at the moment. As everyone knows, there is always something new with horses!

And of course, if you only take a lesson a week at home, there is only so much you can work on. Virtual Coaching allows a rider to spend many more hours a week on improving their knowledge and understanding of riding skills and techniques. You can make your plan with new exercises for improving your next ride while in your pajamas at midnight on your computer, and go out the next morning and execute it!

Virtual Coaching is a little like an interactive Eventing magazine, or a college course on the subject of riding. And knowledge is power! A solid understanding of the "hows" and the "whys" of fundamental concepts and exercises is what turns a rider into a horseman (or horsewoman!).
